Songs for a hard time

Over the last year I have faced a lot of really hard things and I am still working through some of it. For me, it was really hard to stay close to God when I was hurting so badly. I found myself wanting to push God away because I was so mad, sad and hurt by everything that seemed to be happening all at once. I was so determined to get through the trials on my own, but the truth is, I could not have survived it without God. I started to realize that the more I pushed him away the sadder I got.

One day I asked our "Alexa" (fancy, I know) to turn on music so I could clean. It started playing worship music and I started to break down. The song "Broken Vessels" came on and I was overcome with emotion. In the following weeks I began to search for worship songs that related to what I was experiencing and songs that brought me comfort or peace.

I created an entire playlist of songs that have spoken to my heart over the last year and I felt like I needed to share. I know that I can not be the only one who struggles to stay close to God when times are hard. When I listen to these songs I allow myself to apply the lyrics to what I am facing at that moment and most of the time, I end up crying but I don't think that's bad. I use the lyrics of these songs to worship God in times when I don't have the right words on my own.

I wanted to share these songs with you in hopes that they will speak to your heart and help you to find peace, comfort and encouragement from them. I know that when facing a trail it can feel lonely, but God has never left you and He never will! I encourage you to listen to these

songs and worship God even when you find it most difficult to do so!

Oceans by Hillsong

This is probably on everyone's favorite worship songs lists because it is a really beautiful song. "And I will call upon Your name and keep my eyes above the waves. When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace for I am Yours and You are mine."

Waiting here for you- Passion

Thy Will- Hilary Scott

I didn't know about this song until this summer. In the first verse she says "I don't want to think, I may never understand that my broken heart is a part of your plan." Sometimes it is hard to see past the pain and understand what God's plans are. The bridge was also very powerful it says "I know you see me, I know you hear me Lord. Your plans are for me, goodness you have in store."

Trust in you- Lauren Daigle

This song is by far one of my favorites! It is so powerful for when you are going through something difficult. Every word of this song spoke to my heart and continues to help me through this season of life.

You're gonna be ok- Jenn Johnson

What a beautiful name- Hillsong

During a time of heartache I found it very difficult to worship God but I knew I needed to because no matter what he was still good. This was a powerful song to sing and cry to.

Do it again-Elevation

So will I- Hillsong

This goes along with the last song. Saying that if the stars worship God then so will I. God is worthy of our praise no matter our situation.

Broken Vessels (Amazing Grace)- Hillsong

I love this song! There is a part in the chorus that says "I can see the love in your eyes, laying yourself down, raising up the broken to life" What a comfort it is to know that God raises the broken back to life.

Reckless love- Cory Asbury

While I wait- Lincoln Brewster

This song is perfect for when you are in the waiting place for something you desire. "While I wait, I will worship."

Great are you Lord- One sonic society

Build my life- Pat Barret

This song always makes me cry. "I will build my life upon your love, it is a firm foundation"

"As I walk now through the valley, let your love rise above every fear"

Heart of God- Hilsong

Surrounded (Fight my battles)- Michael W. Smith

"This is how I fight my battles. It may look like I'm surrounded but I'm surrounded by you"

This song is absolutely perfect for when you are going through a hard time. Remembering that you are surrounded by God and his love and no problem is bigger than our God.

It is well- Bethel Music

Praise you in the storm- Casting Crowns

This is an older song but so good for when facing a trial. It can be so so hard to praise God when you feel like he has left you to handle pain on your own. This song is a wonderful reminder to praise God in the storm that we are facing.
